Welcome back, Rock n Roll
The new Continental GT 650 Twin is an evolution of the Continental GT 535, which in turn, was an evolution of the Continental GT 250 - the original Royal Enfield British café racer. Powered by the all-new 650 Twin, it looks every bit like its predecessor and performs even better.
Retaining the classic horizontal split running right through, the motorcycle's engine is elegantly cut off from the new bodywork with a dual cradle frame. The distinctive sculpted tank, clip-on handlebars and classic-styled instruments give the motorcycle's cockpit an authentic café racer vibe. Rear-set footrests and upswept exhausts allow for better lean angles – a café racer requisite for pulling off ton-ups. Just like in 60s London.
It takes more than good looks to carve through a corner. The design and development team applied its many years of accumulated know-how while setting key parameters like steering rake, ground clearance, and lean angle, to create the perfect ride for this sports inspired cafe-racer. The Continental GT is a motorcycle that delights in the way it handles on the road, responding to the rider's desires by feeling focused and integral while offering light and agile handling, allowing anyone to enjoy it.
A modern interpretation of a cultural icon, part of the original British café racing scene, an expression of free spirit and a declaration of style.
Drawing inspiration from the café racer culture of 1950s and 60s, the new Continental GT 650 Twin recaptures the spirit of our Continental GT 250. A design icon, the perfect blend of tradition & modernity, with its sculpted tank, eager attitude and a tucked-in riding position, all hallmarks of a traditional café racer, is perfect for carving up the back roads or a ton of fun in the city.
The frame, developed in conjunction with the legendary Harris Performance, thoroughly tested for durability, offers superior balance and handling. Together with the finely tuned suspension with ‘piggy-back’ gas-charged twin shocks for optimum blend of comfort & feel, the chassis ensures the GT 650 is a dynamic ride, lively and agile scratching through those back-lanes.
The new GT650 echoes its predecessors’ style, but it’s a whole new motorcycle. Its ergonomics offers an easy reach to the clip-on bars, for an optimum mix of steering feel and comfort. The rear-set footrests improve cornering clearance, canting the rider forward, into a sporty ‘at-one’ feeling with the GT, making it fun on a quick spin or scratching down their favourite local roads.
Classic aesthetics of 18" alloy-rimmed wheels are shod with Pirelli Phantom SportComp tyres the structure and the compound of which were especially developed for Royal Enfield to complement the chassis and suspension in all riding conditions. The combination of twin-piston Brembo derived callipers on floating front disc and Bosch dual-channel ABS provide assured braking with progressive feedback.
Beauty is often overlooked in chassis design. But this new frame blends the authentic form of period classics with the superb handling and ride of modern engineering. The result is a chassis thats nimble and precise, making for a pure and enjoyable ride
A single-piece forged crank with 270 degree firing order was developed for the way the engine 'feels' when making its power. An old school-inspired engine with high character, it delivers power smoothly.
